Sorry Gabriel, ‘Emily in Paris’ Star Ashley Park Bravely Reveals She’s Team Alfie: “They’re Playing Different Sports”

From Emily in Paris‘ Season 1 premiere back in 2020, fans and stars alike have been shipping Emily (Lily Collins) and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), praying that one day the marketing guru and hot chef would find a way to be together. And in Season 4, Part 1, they finally did!

While Team Gabriel was thrilled over Season 4’s early romantic twist, proud members of Team Alfie — like myself — were not only devastated, but worried what Alfie’s breakup with Emily might mean for actor Lucien Laviscount’s time on the show. During a Zoom interview with Emily in Paris‘ Laviscount and Ashley Park, Decider made sure to ask about Alfie’s future on the show. In doing so, we also got Park to bravely admit where her Emily in Paris loyalties lie.

“When people say Team Alfie and Team Gabriel, they’re playing different sports,” Park, who has remained neutral on the subject in other recent interviews, proudly declared. “You heard it here first. It’s different sports. I think that Gabriel, all of that’s driven by, ‘Oh, we shouldn’t.’ The passion of it. And then Alfie and Emily are so about the respect and like, ‘Let’s build this’ and ‘What’s happening?’ It’s what you’re ready for. They’re just playing different sports. It’s like swimming versus track and field.”

The two Emily in Paris stars got so hyped up about their loyalty to Alfie that they high-fived each other after Park suggested “They’re playing different sports” before screaming to someone off camera, “That is great. We should use that!” and telling Decider, “We’ll remember this interview, because we discovered something.”

As for Alfie’s future on the show, Laviscount assured us we “definitely” haven’t seen the last of Alfie. “I think that choices are made in the heat of the moment, whatever that might be. But I think for Alfie it’s the first time he’s really gone to depth with how he actually really feels. It might just be a little bit too late in this instance, but the respect he has for Emily and their friendship, I think, will blossom. And who knows what’s going to happen next, really?” he said. “Alfie’s definitely not out for the count. Watch out. Watch out.”

In a separate pre-premiere interview, Emily in Paris‘ own Lily Collins also confirmed that Alfie will be back for Season 4, Part 2, saying, “We haven’t seen the last of Alfie. Look, Emily also works with him. He’s such a stand-up, wonderful human and such a great guy, and I think Emily really respects and values him. He’s such an amazing addition to our show. And so I think even if the relationship evolves, it doesn’t mean that it’s completely over. So I’m excited for people to see how that’s handled, and I think it’s done very well and very respectfully.”

You can read more about what to expect from Alfie, Emily, and Emily in Paris as a whole in our Season 4, Part 2 preview piece. Before Laviscount and Park wrapped, however, they took a moment to tease the future of their characters.

“You’re gonna see parts of Mindy that you have not seen before,” Park said. And Laviscount shared that Alfie will be “owning the road to recovery.”

Emily in Paris Season 4, Part 1 is now streaming on Netflix. Here’s everything to know about Season 4, Part 2.
